ADOPTION PROCESS

A piece of our heart and soul is put into each puppy, so each one is very special to us. We adopt a vigorous screening process and only dedicated families who are committed to training and having their dog as an integral part of their lives will be offered an opportunity for one of our puppies.

We care about our puppies, how they are treated, raised, trained and kept - not just in our home - but in yours too.

1. ONLINE APPLICATION

Please complete our online puppy application. This tells us a bit about you, your family and lifestyle and experience with dogs.

We also ask that you text or email us photos or a video of where the puppy will be kept to ensure you have a safe environment and secure fencing.

2. PHONE CALL

After reviewing your application and we feel happy that you could be the right fit for one of our pups, we organise to have a phone/video chat with you. This is so we can get to know each other a bit better and we can both ask each other any questions.

3. CONTRACT AND INFO PACK (PUPPY BIBLE)

After our phone call we will email you our Puppy Sale Agreement (Contract) and our puppy information pack, "The Puppy Bible". You can go over this and let us know if you have any questions!

4. VISIT

Our puppy owners are always welcome to visit us in our family home, meet our dogs and spend time with the puppies. In fact, we love it!

These visits are a wonderful opportunity for you and your puppy to begin getting to know one another before home time. We love watching families start to form that special bond with their puppy, while also getting to know mum, the other dogs and their littermates.

We believe there should be a genuine connection when choosing your puppy, and photos alone can only tell you so much. Our puppy owners often tell us that the puppies are even more beautiful and full of personality in person than they ever imagined from their photos.

Of course, we understand that visiting before collection isn't always possible, particularly for our interstate families. In these cases, our owners place a great deal of trust in our temperament assessments and recommendations, and have been thrilled with their puppy when they finally meet them.

With over 25 years of experience raising and assessing puppies, we have developed a strong understanding of the individual traits, behaviours and temperaments that begin to emerge from an early age. Rather than choosing on looks alone, we guide you through the process and recommend the puppies we believe are best suited to your family, lifestyle and the temperament of any existing pets.

Ultimately, our goal is to help you choose the puppy who doesn't just catch your eye, but feels like the right fit for your home and family.

We just ask for a copy of your ID before you visit us (for security purposes), which we also need for to complete your puppy sale agreement (contract).

Please note: 8 weeks is the minimum age our puppies go to their new homes. If for any reason you aren't able to collect your puppy between 8-9 weeks old due to being away on holidays etc, we may charge a weekly additional fee to look after your puppy (boarding), plus to cover their food and age-appropriate socialisation and training.

Our non-negotiable policy for sterilisation of pet-only puppies is arranged before they go to their new homes. Puppies can be transported interstate a few days after the procedure.

5. DEPOSIT

A deposit is essentially a commitment. It signals that you are serious about welcoming a puppy into your home and allows us to confidently reserve a puppy especially for you.

We deliberately keep our deposits reasonable. This allows families to comfortably pay for their puppy in three instalments, rather than in a lump sum payment.

- To secure a puppy from one of our litters, a $500 deposit is required when pregnancy and an approximate number of pups are confirmed. We are careful to only accept deposits based on the number of pups were are expecting.

- When puppy selection has been made and you have chosen a particular puppy at around 6-7 weeks old, another $500 is then due.

- The remaining balance is paid before your puppy goes home (payment must clear before any pup leaves us).

Deposit Refund Policy

Deposits are only refundable in certain circumstances. We are happy to refund your deposit if we cannot provide a puppy to you as planned, the puppy develops a health concern (this has never happened), or we think the puppy will not be suitable for you.

Once a puppy or a position on our waiting list is reserved for you, we may have already declined several other prospective homes who then proceed to obtain a puppy elsewhere. If a cancellation leaves us unable to place that puppy in another suitable home within the necessary timeframe, the deposit may not be refundable.

Transfer to a Future Litter

We understand that unexpected situations can arise. If circumstances occur that affect the timing of bringing your puppy home, such as a family emergency or significant change in personal circumstances, we are happy to work with you where possible. In these cases, a deposit may be transferred to a future litter, allowing your family to still welcome one of our puppies at a more suitable time.

6. DOCUMENTS

Owners will be provided with the Temperament Evaluation gradings between 6 and 7 weeks old. All pups are critiqued in a number of areas which assess their initial reactions to a set of tests based on the Volhard testing method. In addition to this, we make general age-appropriate classifications from assertive to sensitive, given that most litters have pups who are more confident than others.

We also provide an overall temperament summary which includes things like energy level, independence, owner experience level and focus, based on our observations of them over the past 6+ weeks in various environments and situations.

It’s important for us to ensure our pups go to the right homes who understand more about their individual personalities and how best to motivate and train them to be the best versions of themselves.

It’s important to understand that personality and temperament are not always set in stone at this early age of development and pups can change. Early experiences, proper socialisation, habituation, environment and the consequences and rewards of learning all impact a puppy’s future behaviour and temperament. We will always be there guide our puppy families in the right direction!

Before your puppy comes home, you'll also receive their:

Vaccination card
Home Time Pack
Puppy Bible
Signed copy of your Puppy Purchase Agreement/Contract

On collection day, we'll also send through your puppy's microchip transfer and Petcover insurance registration. Your puppy's LWCA Certificate of Registration and Pedigree from the Lykos Wolfalike Council of Australia will follow shortly afterwards.

Once your puppy is settled at home, you'll need to register them with your local council within 14 days. To do this, simply download your puppy's microchip certificate showing you as the registered owner and provide it to your council when completing the registration process.

INTERSTATE TRANSPORT

If you live interstate and are unable to collect your puppy yourself, we highly recommend Pet Caddy to get your puppy to the airport and book transport.

You may contact Pet Caddy on 0419 554 495, or we will happily make arrangements on your behalf. Their service and prices are very reasonable.

Your pup's flight will need to be booked about a week before transport.

Pups under 12 weeks old require a "fit to fly" veterinary certificate. Sometimes the vet charges a small fee for this, which the buyer will have to cover.
