COLOURS

Common colours of the Lykos at this stage of the breeding program

Please see the Lykos Breed Standard

From the Breed Standard:

Colour:  Any shade of red, grey, sable/agouti or black with white.  Dark masks must cover most of the face, in particular a darker bar down the middle of the face. White faces without mask are not desired unless the dog is mostly white or solid white. All colours should mimic naturally occurring true wolf colours.

The Lykos Wolfalike comes in many different colours and patterns, with the most common desired colour being agouti (i.e. sable) and wolf grey.

We do not breed with colours (such as blue) that are associated with Colour Dilution Alopecia (CDA). Many years ago, we purchased a blue/tan German Shepherd who clearly had this condition, after the breeder advised us the dog was free of it.

The colour appears like a smokey grey where there is usually black. CDA is an inherited skin condition and is common in dogs that have been bred for a diluted colour. It is also associated with lighter eyes. For adults dogs with the inherited gene, it is also considered a form of follicular dysplasia.

They may look lovely, but we will not breed health issues like this into the breed.
